The Magickal Journey | Self-Realisation | The Path of Wholeness | The Great Work | Spiritual Development | Enlightenment | Ascension | Individuation

Today’s bathtime blog is about Magick…what it really is…and what it really isn’t!

Previous articles about my magickal work (Maya Magickal Spells & Personalised Initiation Programmes & Mayastar Academy Online Natural Healing & Spiritual Development Courses) have briefly described the actual definition of magick. But I think it deserves a full blog for those drawn to conscious spiritual development.

Sometimes Magick is called a mystery religion or cult. Or “The Black Arts”. The latter sounds scary but using the words “dark” or “black” around magick refers to the secrecy around it. In the wrong hands magick is dangerous but not in the way you may think. It requires facing yourself in all your truth – this can be challenging. And people with a higher than normal ego consciousness balance, may become egocentric; delusional – even paranoid. Because they appropriate universal experiences as personal and literally fall into the trap of thinking they’re “God’s Gift”. When due study and balanced experience would tend towards the conclusion that, everyone you meet is also God’s Gift and as Extraordinary and Special as you are. There can’t be room for racial, financial or situational based beliefs in Magick. These are the comfort blankets for those clinging to ego consciousness.

So Magick isn’t about being something you’re not or identifying as something that the ego resonates with. It is about being yourself. And this is often more a case of “cutting the crap” than it is of being a whizz with the tarot! It’s about becoming but becoming the truth of what you are. A truth that exists as a fundamental even if you aren’t conscious of it. It’s your reality…but tunes you into that most objective concept; “Truth as an abstraction of Consciousness”.

Magick is the path to Self-Realisation for those moved to reconnect in a personal sense with that abstract divinity that exists within, without and in all ways transcends us.

Magick means we are working (through any method; natural as well as supernatural) to align our actions, thoughts and feelings with our Higher Self: elevating our consciousness so that our motivation is to ACT on the promptings of the “Higher Will” rather than to REACT to promotings of the ego.

It is a spiritual calling to Source. To manifest that Divine Source through all levels of “being” and for the good of all.
Magick is defined as the art of causing change to occur in accordance with Will. The “Will” is the intent of the Higher Self. This idea of the freedom to “do what you Will” has way too often been interpreted by the more hedonistic, less self-aware among us, to mean we can “do what we want”. That would be very primitive and ego based definition of Will. It would define “Want” or highlight our human flaws if anything. The Mage’s first lesson is to learn the difference.
The Higher Will is beyond “want” or “demand”. Those types of base desires based on manifesting instant satisfaction or the fulfillment of lower desires are typical attitudes of the Ego Self.

Ego based consciousness is an emotionally immature state that reflects a spiritually immature state. Magick is the path to Spiritual Maturity but it is reflected in our mental and emotional lives too so if someone seems badly adjusted emotionally, you can know that there is a spiritual and mental component to that imbalance. It’s important for any aspiring magician or mystic learn to recognise these red flags and to resolve them rather than to passively assume they will sort themselves out.

They say time heals…but it does depend what you do with that time!

Through magick we choose to consciously align ourselves with a more mature state that resonates more with the Divine. Now you may call that external expression of Divinity by a name or define it as an abstract concept. But when you experience moments in life where you are aligned with it (the Divinity within yourself is in harmony with the Divinity that is without), things go smoothly, you feel good, and there is a sense of purpose and deep validation that comes from that intimate connection experienced through Magick. It is unique and undeniable. But to experience it usual requires removal of impediments to Higher Consciousness. It’s not uncommon for a personal tragedy to seem to be the catalyst for a sense of deep spiritual communion during prayer. As if the mind is occupied with our misery enough that our spiritual Higher Mind is free from the usual background noise.

All experiences understood from a spiritual perspective have the potential for growth. It is a common complaint “how can you believe in God when bad things happen?”…well, how many drug addicts and alcoholics would there be if it was never possible to hit rock bottom.

We may not know why bad things can happen to good people…but perhaps it’s just that we need to know, this is a level playing field. You can aspire to exceed yourself no matter what your outward situation and status. Spiritually, you are unique and possess potential; the same potential of the greatest evil or monumental saintliness. Spiritual, no one has a silver spoon and it could be argued the more challenging your life conditions are, the greater your potentional is.

Now your path itself is unique. It may be based around personal beliefs and practices; disciplines of religion or philosophy. Observed devotions and practices. There is no single road to Self-Realisation. There is only the goal of achieving fundamental Wholeness through our subjective and objective experiences and understanding. Aspiring to Wholeness is the only path to true happiness.

Through Mayastar Academy Online Natural Healing & Spiritual Development Courses I teach a variety of energy healing and meditation distance learning courses online. These are techniques that may add to your experience – or be a place to begin. These techniques can form a part of conscious spiritual development; and that was why I founded Mayastar in 2004.

My intention is to provide support & assistance to people in achieving alignment with their Higher Will. It is an example of me choosing my vocation in alignment with my Higher Will; of causing change to occur in accordance with my Will. And to support others on the path to Wholeness by my lifetime’s devotion to the process. My ego would probably feel safer with a 9-5 – but my soul would remain unfulfilled.

My life, thoughts, ideas, actions and beliefs are aligned with my Higher Will. Whether I am providing an initiation intensive, reiki attunement or tailored ritual intensive, my relationship with every client and student, reflects my higher intention. For my own journey, that’s how it has to be. And often my journey plays a part in the spiritual journey of another.

There are many other more mundane things that I have to do to make this possible though. I have to feed myself, keep a roof over my head, do my accounts, pay my bills and taxes, choose a diet that doesn’t hinder my work (some of my spells require a lot of dance – they are choreographed Tantric Shamanic Rituals – I couldn’t eat a heavy meal or too many carbs on a ritual heavy day). But these sacrifices for the perfection of my work are part of the work too. The good habits aren’t a sacrifice because they actually have benefits on other levels. But most importantly, they enable to manifest my “soul purpose”.

All these details are parts of that same magickal process and all essential to me being able to provide spiritual facilitation & service in accordance with my Higher Will. My decisions are made with that singularity of intention. Although my decision seems intellectual, the spiritual calling is my motivation. It’s much harder to explain and often harder to define our “destination” (destiny) because spiritual yearnings are different to other yearnings we experience. Our intuition develops as we go but using logic and intellect can be a safer starting point. A wooly intuitive desire could far more easily be confused with an ego based desire. That’s why you hear of people studying Magick. In the early stages, understanding our own motivations can be a bit of a minefield!

Of course there have been times in the past where I made choices that took me out of alignment with my higher intentions. We all do – magick is process of growth and often can mean having thr humility to learn by our own mistakes. Sometimes by “unlearning” our past immature assumptions or beliefs.
But as we practice, our self-awareness develops and as it does, we are increasingly called upon to make (sometimes hard) decisions. But what is consciousness, if not asking questions?

When we are younger these crossroad moments can be harder on us; our ego has a loud voice but low aspirations! This can also be the case later in life if we have persisted in ego consciousness for a long time. It can feel like very hard work when we begin to move to the perspective of Higher Consciousness.

The process of magick is a lifestyle. It includes everything that forms part of your life “expression” and it is a life-long path. Not a few years in a coven. But many years of disciplined and focused application. Akin in many ways to Bhakti Yoga (Devotional Practice).

Is it really worth it you may ask? Well, if that’s a question, Magick probably isn’t your path. Magick is a way of life.
It isn’t something you achieve “as if by magick”; it’s the practice of following the path to Wholeness and in being of “one mind”.

It’s sometimes described as “the reconciliation of opposites” or “The Great Work” – these are very accurate names. But Self-Realisation is the one I prefer!

It’s important to remember that whatever path you choose or techniques you use, keeping yourself in alignment with your higher will encompasses all aspects of your life, all of the time.

We may recognise magickal proficiency by some external signs of psychic skills or talent in healing or spellcrafting. But the integration of our ego with our higher consciousness means our thoughts, feelings and behaviour all evolve too. The Whole Self is party to our development. And true Magick is the internal journey – the goal is always the spiritual aspiration.

We can find guidance externally but there isn’t an external authority because the process is deeply personal and absolutely unique. Although we may have relationships and connections with people that share similar goals and can offer support and encouragement, the inner process is only something you can do. It requires discipline and devotion. It requires a personal level of commitment to the process (faith and confidence) that will support us through challenging times.

Even if you’re working with a spiritual group or other group based around Self-Realisation, the journey to Wholeness is one we all make alone. And it is the only path to true happiness.

Bathtime Blogging…today green moodlights with a Guardian of the Forest BathBomb from Lush & listening to motown.

Ponderings of the day are around my work and questions people ask about magick…

Useful dark moon at the moment so this weekend’s been quite busy with reversal spells and similar. But the dark moon isn’t only for those kind of spells…

It’s a good time for magick focused developing psychic or magickal skills. A good time for spells to enhance sensitivity to subtle energy, for deep healing and initiation work.

Most people have some level of ability and certain talents will naturally occur as a person works on their spiritual development – often as a consequence of clearing hindering factors rather than consciously seeking growth. Magick is often more a process of “cutting the crap” – those restrictions and impediments that hold us back, than it is a process of development.  The intention of the person and their level of consciousness is very individual so there are no hard and fast rules. Everyone’s journey of Self-Realisation is unique.

In a very general way, as ego consciousness is replaced (or more accurately, integrated) our capacity for intuition and talents that can manifest as it increases, will grow. And when we accelerate the process consciously, it’s vital to maintain our objective consciousness of we are to truly make any real advances. Self awareness is vital in this process and journalling is a great way to maintain this. It’s considered usual for a mage or witch to keep a “magickal diary” or “Book of Shadows” and that’s not just an archaic tradition but an important tool in conscious development work.

Although we will all have tendencies to natural talents and magickal skills that become more powerful as we take the journey to Self-Realisation, it is possible to enhance them. It’s a case of working to develop the natural skill without creating any imbalance in the energy body. Imbalance is often what restricts attempts for spiritual development. So it’s something that can be assisted but can’t be forced. So you need to understand that you’re assisting a natural process, not trying to artificially harness a “supernatural” one.

One of the main hindering factors in the process of Magick (which is the journey to Self-Realisation) is created when people enter into a phase of “looking for results”…where they are looking for external validation of an internal process and get into a habit of not looking further than that. They msy lose perspective and though they may manifest some skills in (for example) psychic awareness or aura scanning, their energy becomes unbalanced because it’s not properly grounded and the ego is dominant in the consciousness. It may seem you’re making progress but then you hit a wall. And a change in your methods of development is needed.

These are phases that all people go through – they are part of a progressive journey. But at times where unbalanced development occurs, the block it creates can have unwanted side effects on other levels. Sometimes they can be hard to recognise until they are at a harmful level. And the ego tends to try to deny them as if they are a personal flaw.

Most commonly people notice they have developed a tendency to be oversensitive to the negative energies of others and think that’s a sign of their advanced intuition. It’s really not – it’s a sign of being ungrounded. But where ego consciousness has a loud voice, it can be a time where the aspirant really needs to study their motivations if they are to progress.

If an unbalanced energetic state is maintained for a prolonged period, the person may even experience physical health problems from deficient energy in some areas and too much in others. The process of journalling can be very useful in identifying these things. It’s important to take care not to pin all your health experiences (physical, mental, emotional or spiritual) on energy imbalance…sometimes it’s completely the other way round; a physical or emotional problem creating an imbalance on an energetic level. So any issues should be addressed on all levels.

Other symptoms that can manifest if there’s a lack of grounding are tendencies to overeat, over exercise, even to abuse alcohol or drugs – in an attempt to “ground”. Such strategies may even seem to work temporarily but they are not a solution. They will always become a hindering factor. It can mean you seem to take one step forward and two steps back every time you make a conscious effort to “advance” in spiritual or magickal sense. But don’t lose heart! This is a natural part of our development consciously – we learn by our mistakes essentially. But we only learn if we admit there’s a problem and seek a solution.

Understand, you will advance naturally. Growth, progreass and evolution are the natural order of things. Assisting the process isn’t the same as forcing the process before you’re equipped (mentally and emotionally) to do it safely.

There are some yogic techniques criticised for forcing the process and causing problems. Intensive meditation practices can seem to do the same. So keep writing it down. Condensing your experiences and intentions into words is an important tool and can prevent the pitfalls of those actively pursuing the magickal path.

There are a number of magickal and energy healing/meditation options I provide for people who find themselves – they can facilitate development, teach new techniques and assist you in your spiritual goals. It’s a very important part of my practice as both a Mystic and a Witch.

The Killing Moon Karmic Reversal 30 Day Ritual Intensive is an important option for releasing you from hindering elements. That’s why reversal workings in general are often useful even as a preliminary preparation for development work. The intensive is like a powerful healing in fact; helping to release you from those things that are impediments to your development. Often these may be attachments you have formed to situations or memories that you’ve actually outgrown but haven’t consciously accepted that so some element keeps you connected to them. Restrictive lifestyle habits or belief patterns can also be a big part of what we perceive as the hurdles that hold us back. As I said, often Magick is a process of “cutting the crap” and that’s why this particular working is so effective and important.

The LightBody Activation Initiation Intensive was designed specifically for rebalancing and allowing a full expression of your psychic skills – it also has a balancing effect and may manifest deep spiritual healing.

Combined with the Killing Moon Karmic Reversal I would recommend the Initiation Intensive as the most comprehensive solution.  But there are other options that can be very useful…

I would recommend anyone serious about the development of psychic or magickal skills to practice daily meditation and journalling as essential to maintain higher consciousness and objectivity. There are number of courses I would recommend for this: The Avalonian Trilogy, Kundalini Reiki and Elemental Pentagram courses are all good options – not just for maintaining balance; conscious actions align you more fully with your intentions and facilitate growth in ways that a passive “wishful thinking” doesn’t. Intention is all important but acting on your intentions resolves problems of inner conflict and makes the process more effective. You can’t get serious about using magick if you don’t want to be serious about your commitment to manifesting your higher will.

If you think a spell is a short cut, it w3ould only ever manifest as a “quick fix” with limited or short lived success, because your consciousness simply wasn’t in alignment with your intention. If you’re at odds with yourself, you pretty much undermine your own progress. So I say again…keep a journal. It’s an indispensable tool in maintaining your perspective.

The ego often makes demands for “power” or “control” that people misinterpret as a “calling”. And very simply, if your “success” or “satisfaction” is centred on the external validation of your intentions, they are not really intentions but base desires or demands originating from the ego. Ultimately they will hold you back – and at the same time may inflate your belief in your own proficiency, importance and sense of “power”. The illusion of ego based definitions is the biggest opponent to your higher will.

If you’re sure you’ve achieved balance and eliminated hindrances and that your intentions are motivated by your higher will, then the Goddess Aradia Tantric Shamanic Ritual with Divinity Assumption can be tailored as a personal initiation. It allows you to be consciously involved in the process of the ritual and to align more fully with your personal and spiritual goals. So it can be used to enhance the talents or skills you have.

The process is simple and available to anyone, whatever their proficiency. It’s also safe and I make the process as accessible as possible for serious seekers.

The Aradia working can even be specifically tailored to increase your ability in divination, energy work or clairvoyance – any expression of those natural skills that manifest as we develop spiritually. But a balanced base allows for a more powerful experience and more profound change. Hence my emphasis on Karmic Reversal. It levels the playing field so change manifests more quickly and fully and permanently.

A process of regular Tantric Shamanic Rituals with Divinity Assumption Channellings can be a great way to work towards your ascension goals.

What is a Lightworker? How do you become one? | By ALM (Maya)

Lightworkers

One of the most common questions I receive from new and prospective students, is how do they become a Lightworker? Often you may feel that you have a spiritual mission to fulfil and are unsure where to begin or exactly how to go about it.  Sometimes there is even some conflict within you as to whether it’s something you have time for or would be able to do at all.

There is a lot of information out there that can support you if you are looking for it.  However, even with all that information, the journey is one that is essentially an internal one that decide to take you take. Later you will find you naturally find ways of expressing this internal change in other ways, but the journey begins usually with a feeling…and then with a decision.

A Lightworker is someone who has a ‘calling’ to serve humanity in some way.  Some believe true Lightworkers are enlightened or spiritually advanced beings that have chosen their current incarnation in order that they may assist in some way, the spiritual evolution of humanity as a whole. My own experience leads me to consider that this calling is within all of us – perhaps louder for some than others – and perhaps some trust that calling more than others.  But I feel it is within every person to assist humanity in achieving our collective potential in however big or small a way they can, by following that calling.

There are no end of ways you might go about this.  And many techniques you may work with to assist you in developing the skills and awareness that will help you fulfil your goals.  Energy Healing and meditation are those that I teach (backed up by my experience, and personal studies).  I do also provide ritual empowerments and initiation options.  And I do quite a lot of writing!  These are the areas I am best skilled in.  But not all Lightworkers teach.  Some may become healers, writers, counsellors, motivational speakers, artists or psychics.  And others may develop their skills to assist friends and family – perhaps providing healing or inspiring others by example.

The real fact about Lightworkers is that it’s something we all aspire to on some level whether we choose to become proactive in that aspiration or not.  There is no restriction to the way you express your ‘vocation’ as a Lightworker. There are no restrictions based on philosophies, religions, qualifications, practices, personal skills and talents.

I have always aimed through my work to inspire and encourage people in achieving their spiritual potential; and to make that journey as accessible as possible while encouraging people in such a way that I consider, what I teach is almost secondary to what I pass on to those I work with.  My focus is always on empowerment of the individual.  So above and beyond any details, I consider that fundamental to Lightwork is the very idea that every individual has a part to play; the concept that we are all part of something bigger and united by certain spiritual aspects.  We don’t need to know what that ‘something bigger’ is or what part we are playing in the grander scheme of things to begin the journey.  We just need an open mind, and the confidence to take the first step.

Try not to compare yourself to others or to discourage yourself because you think your contribution won’t count.  It will.  It always does! All Lightworkers are different. You won’t need to suddenly go vegan, meditate for an hour a day or become a hippie to validate you ‘spiritual credibility’!

On some level you already possess the ‘wholeness’ of your potential. What we think of as spiritual growth that allows us to evolve as Lightworkers, is actually the process of letting go of the restrictive and divisive beliefs we may have held.  Letting go of habits or addictions (which may be patterns of behaviour rather than addictions to substances), that get in the way of our being truly free to be ourselves.  It’s a process of remembering who you are and becoming who you are meant to be.

Lightworkers have one intention that unites them; their conscious decision to respond to that inner calling; to express their truth (in all aspects of their life) in accordance with “The Power That Moves the Universe”.  Some may call this ‘Divine Intelligence’, ‘Universal Light’, ‘God’ or ‘Nature’.  The name is not important, but our relationship to that common Source is what defines us as Lightworkers.

In her book, The Lightworker’s Way, Dr Doreen Virtue details her own spiritual journey. She explains the awakening her healing and clairvoyance as well as her understanding of them. She writes, “This is a book about my own journey of remembering my identity and abilities as a Lightworker. Its purpose is to help you recall your own divine mission and your natural spiritual skills.”
