Fancy picsart selfie – epic Bathtime!

Green moodlights & Lush Guardian of the Forest BathBomb. Listening to Lana Del Rey. Smell v vanilla (American Cream conditioner).

Drinking greendrink with apple cider vinegar & maplesyrup.

My pookie (aka Elvis) out tonight doing TeddyBoy stuff. I’m in, and taking my routine at a decadent pace!

I have mentioned before, sometimes I have real problems editing my blogs. Apparently this is not uncommon with Higher Functioning Autism…my brain jumps from idea to idea…and touch typing means most blogs I intend as articles end up more of a stream of consciousness. Covering too many topics and ending up a bit of mess! Some are fine. But some I am not at all pleased with. So, as far as blogging goes, I’m still “developing my style”.

My blogs are intended to be informal rather than scientific articles. Just blogs about things that interest me. General updates in my personal life. Ponderings on the philosophy of magick (as a path to Self-Realisation) and psychology.

Many blogs are inspired by questions from students and clients of Maya Magickal Spells & Personalised Initiation Programmes and Mayastar Academy Online Natural Energy Healing & Spiritual Development Courses – but at the same time, I include articles about my hobbies…so it is a bit varied. A blog about how I get “grunge hair” without using heat or styling products; a review of a mineral powder foundation; how I mix my henna for an easier rinse etc. It’s intended to personal…but also informative. I think in the main it appeals to peoole who are a bit like me and share my interests or hobbies.

So I hope my blog is useful and people enjoy it. But I do see there needs to be some change with my editing failure. Bear with me – I’m sure I will strike a balance at some point!

However, since I uploaded my first YouTube video at Christmas (because my nephew pressed record when I tried to get a nice family photo)…I have been wondering if maybe vlogging could be more suitable for some of my blogs. Possibly even make some things more accessible.

At first I thought I wouldn’t have the confidence to be able to do it. So, I have mulled it over a lot. Considering how I could approach it. What would feel right. And how it might be received.

My aspergers also means I sometimes don’t speak…or I speak quietly. And that was a concern – would vlogging mean the stream of consciousness style was a problem with videos too? Would I feel it was too personal or intrusive as well.

I have been working with ASMR quiet speaking in my magickal work for a long time. I even choreographed some silent rituals or rituals that only have chants. And it’s worked very well for me. And because I am nocturnal I find by nature, I tend to whisper a lot as a way of naturally winding down at bedtime after my meditation work is finished.

So it’s that habit that gave me the idea for the format I would like to work with.

I really have no idea if it would be interesting to other people. I know I’m not the only ASMR fan out there but I am not planning random brushing sounds or hypnotic role play style vids. My plan was to use part of my day to record a “chat”. And to keep it varied and informative and informal. Relaxing and with relaxing background sounds etc.

I’m intending the format to work for me and viewers. But the channel to be a new way to share information that I haven’t tried before. It may even work well as a way to talk about subjects I intend to blog about later – a way to help me to avoid my stream of consciousness blog problem!

I know trolling on YouTube can be pretty bad…but definitely trolls a minority. Just a small minority with a big mouth! So I may get some negative feedback. That isn’t a problem. Constructive criticism is useful.
.destructive criticism is something I ignore. And the only way to see if it works will be to bite the bullet and try it!

I tried a few sample recordings and realised the mic on my mobile is not sufficient…too much hiss which would be problem with the quiet speaking/whispering style. Though I will upload one from my phone because I would like to see the difference in quality with my (brand spanking new) camcorder!

It took a while to find one that has an audio input. But for the style I want to use, it’s going to be essential.

Also the camera I chose is small and has a built in stand. Which will help keep my vids informal. A bit of the vibe of a personal chat. Hoping if people like the style and the content, it will be a fantastically useful way to share info and ideas.

So…watch this space!

Personal Upd8 | Henna | Beauty Tips | Natural Skincare | Veganism | Make Up Free Selfies | Lush | Creme de la Mer

image

Bf away yesterday so had a loooong bath. So current personal beauty tips…

Henna & coconut oil perfect redhead with tidy roots. Tinted & tidied eyebrows. Tinted eyelashes. If you keep the basics covered & use quality moisturiser (Creme de la Mer & Oz Naturals Hyalauronic Acid serum), get lots of exercise…don’t drink or smoke, you can get away with #nomakeupselfie pix!

I think my plant based vegan diet makes a big difference. Using lush cosmetics yellow fun for washing & sympathy for the skin twice a day and I’m really soft all over. Happy days!

It is laziness & boho style that means I don’t have time for makeup except tinted lipbalm (hint of fuschia) – but it’s working pretty well!

Happy Days | Lalaloopsy | Teddy Boys | Magick | Resolutions | Veganism | Lush | Lana Del Rey | Big Eyes

image

I love…waking up in a mess of Lalaloopsy BuildaBear dolls! My TeddyBoy has given me loopsy fever and I have ten of them! Candyfloss scented…four in their official costumes…four in PJs (I still hug teddies to sleep and the official costumes were not so cuddly!). And two additional dolls as Princess Anna and Princess Elsa – special additional Christmas memento. My first Christmas without dad…my first Christmas with my TeddyBoy…and my first Christmas dinner as a vegan!

Have had tons of temple work from Solstice onwards. New Year is a special time for people making resolutions and magick can help with clearing the decks and creating suitable energies to support change. It’s great to be able to help and inspiring to work with people who are inspired!

Happy happy days!

Current fave music still Lana Del Rey – fave album Honeymoon and fave track undecided but I actually favour those for the Big Eyes soundtrack at the moment.

Time for a Lush bubble bath (adoring Love and Light hand cream which I am using as a body lotion at the moment).

Then prep my special plant based vegan stew to put on for 2mrw (soooo convenient and filled with superfood veggies!)…do a little admin…then my man will be over to chill before I do attunements and spell work followed by my personal meditation work before I pick up on my Yogananda book about the Hindu understanding of AscendedMaster Jeshua (Jesus) and his message of devotional practice which is so akin to Bhakti Yoga as to be extremely congruent with my own personal religious observations.

So I’ll get on…BubbleBath is calling!

Mini Blog | Cruelty Free | Natural Beauty | Skincare | Lush | Argan Oil | Creme de la Mer

Mini Blog | Cruelty Free Stoptober Experiment | www.tumblr.annalouisemay.net | www.wordpress.annalouisemay.net

I will review products individually in small blogs over the coming weeks. But before I do, I thought a little update.

As anyone who follows my blog is aware…I am v lazy. I rarely wear make up. I don’t wear foundation. I tend to keep a neat look by making sure my hair is hennaed and my roots are done and well conditioned. My eyelashes and eyebrows are tinted. My eyebrows are shaped and tidy. My lips are hydrated. My skin is hydrated. And I wear lipstains like Benetint or Posie Tint from Benefit usually, with a Burts Bees tinted lipbalm to top up. Or I used a revlon lipgloss/stain, applied it and wiped it off to leave a fuschia tint that didn’t look over done.

I’m 42. I don’t have much sun damage. I don’t really have lines. My skin is normal. Sometimes a bit dry in winter. I went through some hassle when I came off the pill five years ago and my skin got dry. Nothing seemed to work. I knew it would be hormonal and would balance out. I tried all kinds of creams and ended up with a rash from one and thought, that’s it. I will bite the bullet and try Creme de la Mer. Everyone raves about it. It can’t make this worse and I am wasting a fortune. (Note – I tried Lush’s Skin’s Shangri La at this time. Not cheap. It sorted the moisture but gave me clogged pores).

3 weeks later my skin was transformed to the point people thought I had, had something done. It appeared poreless. Spotless. Smooth. Moisturised. And I was amazed. Truly hadn’t expected a miracle despite the reviewers claims. But it was one!

Since then I have favoured La Mer moisturisers. The body cream, eye balm, moisturiser and lip balm. I also use the regenerating serum in the summer as a light alternative.

According to the PETA, La Mer, owned by Estee Lauder lost its cruelty free status a few years ago. This wasn’t due to anything La Mer or Lauder changed but rather a change in PETA categorisation. La Mer don’t test on animals. Their products are not made by people who do. La Mer is essentially cruelty free. But…they sell to China. And the Chinese test every skincare product they sell on animals.

So now a moral dilemma. Is La Mer cruelty free as it was until a few years back before being reclassified? Is is cruelty free when I buy it in the UK but not if I bought it in China. Or is it immoral for La Mer/Lauder to sell to China and we should boycott them by virtue of a lack of integrity? Or should we all lean heavily on China to stop their methods?

For me, my Stoptober experiment was interesting. I am recently full vegan (diet not lifestyle) after being mostly vegetarian since my teens. And I had used Lush products during my Stoptober experiment as I have enjoyed them since their Cosmetics to Go days.

Well. The second my experiment ended, I am back on La Mer. In a month it really wrecked my face. The Fun I used as body wash was great. And I liked the body lotions I used. Liked. They did give me soft skin. But in honesty…they weren’t user friendly. Not fast to absorb. Some better than others and my dry skin on my legs cleared up…but I was using argan oil all over before bed too (in place of bio oil).

Having to look into each product was interesting. Lush use some harsh foaming agents. They use laureth-4 which is not good for allergy prone skin. They do use some petroleum based additives…but the ingredients list on the labels is user friendly and the natural ingredients…all good. But the bad side? Being honest, the smells which seem such a treat when used occasionally, when used together create such a strong smell I couldn’t wear perfume all month because my hair smelled of vanilla, my body smelled of orange and patchouli after washing with something smelling citrusy and bathing in a sakura scented bath.

It got a bit much really. Especially because the body lotions (while effective) seemed to need a half hour sinking in period before dressing. Something I don’t have. So they may be good for before bed but daily use did become more time consuming than I am used to.

So for this month…a simple test…I will use the Lush bath stuff and washes as before. Herbalism and Ocean Salt for my face. But only La Mer body cream, argan oil, La Mer moisturiser and serum. And see how I go.

I can’t make a conclusion at all…these are hardly clinical trials. But I am starting to wonder if maybe the moisturising bath and shower stuff I was using left a detergent residue on my skin causing the dry patches…watch this space anyway!

Also, those who think Creme de la Mer is crazy expensive…£70 wasted on Lush face moisturisers that ruined my skin is worse. If you bought a bath bomb for each day of a month – about £3 a day that would cost you twice as much as using Creme de la Mer face moisturiser (a little goes a long way).

One thing I will quickly big up though! Lush’s lipsticks and eyeliners – versatile and work v much in the way I use Benetint/Posie Tint. I will definitely continue using their make up and hair care…by the end of November I will decide whether I will continue with their cleansers too!

So my subject to review conclusion at this point is…I think Lush and La Mer will work well together for me.  I think my dry skin problems may have come from using Dove products that are too full of chemicals and slightly irritated my skin.

Also…my eyes have been opened to the fact that sometimes choices are based on what works best and others may choose based on company ethics. And right now, I am not sure where I stand on that.

Argan Oil | Is it really sooo amazing?

ArganOil!

I have used oils as body moisturisers on and off for years. Mixed results. And the petrol element of them is off putting.

Apparently coconut oil can slightly block pores (not good if you work out and dance ballet a lot as I need moisture I can sweat through to avoid rashes). Jojoba oil is not really an oil – it is a wax and doesn’t have good moisturising properties.

By all accounts Argan oil is the perfect oil for skin and hair. So amazing that some call it “liquid gold”!

So, just settling down for a read before bed and using Argan Oil as an all over bedtime moisturiser.

Can it really be as miraculous as they say? I almost can’t wait to wake up tomorrow and see how my skin feels.

So far, my cruelty free stoptober skincare experiment is amazing me. I use high end usually. CremedelaMer, ysl, dior & Chanel mostly. Though always have the odd splurge at LushCosmetics too.

CDLM was the only face and body moisturiser that seemed to adequately moisturise my skin…but the company is owned by EsteeLauder who do test on animals.

Having switched to a plantbasedvegan diet this year…found I look and feel amazing on it. I slowly began to question the ethics…the moral implications of living compassionately. And decided, I would try it. I am not commiting myself to a full on veganlifestyle. But veganism has implications far beyond animalrights and beautywithoutcruelty – it has implications for the planet too.

I don’t want to ram it down people’s throats or get political. It is my choice. And I admit that cowspiracy, forksoverknives and earthlings made an impression.

Also, the health implications matter to me. The resources we use to maintain the meat and dairy industry are a concern. But eating animals that almost certainly suffered…doesn’t sit well with my conscience.

Can I say so far Lush, VeganCosmetics & naturalskincare products measure up against the big brands? Well, ten days in and I would say, there isn’t a perceptible change. Perhaps my legs feel less dry…but it is very early days. I got two pimples…they vanished in a day!

So far…so fabulous.

I love…being a hippie! ♡

image

I love…being a hippie! (Or…perhaps due to my penchant for all things victorian, a bohemian is more accurate…maybe a boho loves poetry more than psychedelic rock & tiedye?)

Anyway…VVV excited abt animal cruelty free stoptober now! Was worried abt coping with the changes u often get when your body gets used to new products.

I will be doing weekly reviews and mostly on Lush cosmetics – but also on stuff I use regularly henna for my preraphaelite redhead style, vegan & cruelty free makeup (I wear v little but a decent fuschia lipstick & a reliable red lipstick are my staples! So nervous of trying those but committed to the process).

Also using hyalauronic acid & vit c serum from olOznaturals, Biona coconut oil & will be using an organic argan oil for dry areas too.

Am so far loving the feeling of not rubbing petrol based, mineral oil & chemical nasties into my body and hoping it ‘sinks in’, while being aware, if I knew what was in it, I would probably hope it didn’t!

Anyway, watching Forks Over Knives, Earthlings and Cowspiracy definitely heightened my resolve to commit to an ethical and karmically sound diet and lifestyle…the diet part is no big change for me…the other parts are more of a challenge!
