Energy Healing | Reiki | Holistic Health

This blog is taken from a discussion with a student who has undiagnosed and intermittent stomach pain and has previously assumed this to be an “energy block” and based on that has not pursued any clinical diagnosis.

I always emphasise the importance of taking a holistic view of health and wouldn’t recommend anyone self diagnose with “an energy block” and to seek no further clarification from appropriate professionals.

I teach energy healing & meditation techniques as well as providing magickal solutions (based on karmic reweaving)…these are complementary and not alternatives to medicine, lifestyle choices, diet etc.

A holistic approach means taking on board all aspects of health and diagnosis.  Energy healing isn’t an alternative to medical. And for full health a body needs balance physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. If you are eating badly, don’t take any exercise, have a stressful lifestyle or habits you know are compromising your health and wellbeing, it’s not reasonable to turn to learning energy healing and meditation as an alternative to resolving problems with practical solutions. No amount of chanting will remove a ruptured appendix…and no one would expect it to. So if you have health problems you really should see a health care professional.

If you wish to use my services magickally or in energy work to progress towards a harmonious state, that’s excellent and exactly what my work is for. But if you think magick can provide a quick fix or meditation can cure all ills while you continue to make choices you know are causing you harm (such as drinking, taking drugs, unhealthy eating or unhealthy habits of lifestyle such as letting your ego dictate your course in life and causing your conscience to blanch at your own behaviour and choices), magick, meditation and energy healing won’t fix it. If you don’t genuinely want to change you won’t change. And although meditation, ritual or energy work may assist you, may increase your self awareness and support you in making progress, they aren’t there to make you magickally transform into something else against your will!

If someone has health problems (physical, mental or emotional), I would not assume to make a diagnosis as I am not qualified to.  So if you’re ignoring something, find out what it is from someone qualified, before you decide for yourself what you think it is and how you think you should treat it!

The student hadn’t contacted me about health problems beforehand…and I don’t think they can have read the Mayastar Study Manuals that accompany the courses I teach otherwise they would have known that my response would be to reiterate what I teach. A genuinely holistic approach…not a bunch of new age fluff bunny nonsense. I think people that do (and I have had to re-teach Reiki to people who received no real guidance or study materials from “Masters” so many times now that I consider the fluff bunny nonsense approach to be both epidemic and dangerous) are causing untold harm and not embracing the holistic view at all.

If you feel the energy healing is exacerbating a condition I would advise not to use it until you have seen a medical professional that can ensure you are safe to do so.

Also, it is important to ensure you have grounded yourself with the grounding meditation before and after each session – and read the Study Manuals fully.

If you have pursued the advice of a medical professional and your digestive problems perisist without an apparent cause, look at other areas of your lifestyle. Maybe seeing a nutritionist would be indicated. If stress causes the problem maybe a different kind of energy work would be more suitable.

If you feel grounding or long term imbalance are a significant component in your work there are options like the Avalonian Trilogy Meditation that can help you balance out and would be suitable for reducing stress.

Also there are ritual options. The healing/grounding effect of the Killing Moon 30 Day Karmic Reversal Ritual can be helpful; it has a very healing and grounding effect and depending on the source of the imbalance may significantly improve it or eliminate it. But I really recommend against considering these options as alternatives or to self diagnose a problem without any professional advice. You could be causing harm to yourself by doing so.

So although any problem could be helped with energy healing or meditation, it could also be exacerbated with the wrong kind of energy or by using techniques incompletely (particularly neglecting to follow the instruction onn grounding!).

Stomach complaints that are ongoing should be seen by a physician. Diary products can exacerbate underlying conditions – or be the cause of them. A lack of exercise can cause problems with digestion. Food allergies or intolerance could be aggravated by stress. But at the same time, persistant problems may indicate a chronic condition that requires medical diagnosis and may be better helped with professional medical care. Your assumption that it is an energy block may be right but unless you see someone qualified to rule out potentially serious conditions such as diverticulitis, hernia or colitis, your self diagnosis could be dangerous.

When we work holistically we don’t assume all problems are due to energy blocks when it’s also possible for a medical, dietary or lifestyle condition to cause similar symptoms. And unchecked a medical condition can result in an energy block – but to treat that it would be advisable to take a holistic view and treat it on all levels. Which includes medical.

It may not be a serious condition or it may be one you can manage without medication too. IBS for example. In that case energy healing and meditation may be very helpful!

To end with an anecdotal point…over the years (decades) I have worked with attunement based energy healing and meditation systems, as my natural “basal vibrational frequency” has shifted, I have noticed I can’t tolerate caffeine very much. I can’t eat meat or sugar or drink alcohol because they have a very grounding effect on me. Something I became aware of as my natural sensitivity increased. I also gave up smoking 9 years ago. And recently gave up dairy as what I had thought was a bit of an intolerance began to cause histamine swelling in my hands (an allergy rather than an intolerance). People’s bodies change over time and often people naturally change their habits based on those changes…but if I hadn’t decided to go vegan I might have irritated my body with more dairy products and ended up with more serious problems.

 

Other anecdotal situations – my mother gave up sugar and her IBS went away (but her hernia required medication and surgery and changing her diet wouldn’t have fixed that! ). I used to get migraines and have hay fever as a child but somehow at some point grew out of them. Whereas my brother grew into getting migraines in his 30s having never had one before. So people’s bodies change and it’s sometimes something you have to learn to manage – my brother made significant lifestyle changes to reduce to risk of migraine.

Additionally, I have temporal lobe epilepsy and I make significant lifestyle based choices to manage it because after discussing with my neurologist he was happy for me to try a drug free route. But over time, my epilepsy may change and I will change with it. (It’s why in so many selfies I’m wearing sunglasses in fact – I am light sensitive and sometimes wear them before bed because I tend to have more as I start to relax otherwise). But I would rather keep sunglasses by my bed than take a chemical preventative medication that has long term side effects. However, it was important I saw my GP about and had scans and tests and got a proper diagnosis before discussing my options with someone who knows about TLE. Because the very same symptoms might have indicated a tumour or a stroke. So it’s very important I think that if you’ve self diagnosed a problem you have had for many years, you see a professional and make sure you’re making choices based on the facts.

I think many people on a spiritual journey find that as they raise their energy, their intolerance to low energy vibes (from food, people, music or habits) becomes highlighted and that’s part of the journey in a way. But that shouldn’t be used as a reason to boycott the facts or (in some cases), our own common sense!

So have a look at the options. Consider your symptoms. Think about your diet and lifestyle to see if they offer up any clues. And speak to a GP for advice. If energy healing doesn’t feel right, perhaps a structured meditation system might suit you better in managing stress for example. But please ensure you seek appropriate professionals…a holistic view means working with the whole x
